About this table

DescriptionPhysicians and ECLS staff in Germany and Switzerland (2019; 467 respondents as deposited, article analyses 420 physicians) rated 5 text vignettes each of patients on running extracorporeal life support (ECMO), varying age, circuit, days on ECLS, withdrawal criteria, patient condition, therapeutic goal, comorbidities and neurological outcome: 1-6 agreement that treatment should be (own view) and would be (clinic) discontinued.

Randomization restrictionsyes (stated by the source): fixed blocked D-efficient design (180 vignettes in 36 decks of 5); 80- and 90-year-old patients never bridged to transplant, so transplant goal and those ages are less frequent
Task orderunknown
Profile positionrecorded in the deposit

Because the attribute levels were not randomized independently, an estimator has to account for the restriction; a plain difference in means across levels can mislead.

Outcomes:

rating_clinicIn my clinic, the ECLS/ECLS treatment would be discontinued (translated) [rating, 1 (not correct at all) to 6 (fully correct)]
rating_selfFrom my point of view, the ECLS/ECLS treatment should be discontinued (translated) [rating, 1 (not correct at all) to 6 (fully correct)]
