1,931 rated or chosen profiles from 966 respondents, in up to 1 tasks of 2 profiles varying on 4 attributes.

One of 2 tables from the same source; this one is the formal table. The others are listed under Related tables.

About this table

DescriptionPaired text-vignette experiment in which 966 Mexico City residents (online survey, Aug 2021) rated two colonias described by a problem, the neighbours' response, whether a regular neighbours' group was formed, and the result; outcomes: difficulty of organizing without the government and to ask the government for help (1-5 each).

Randomization restrictionsyes (stated by the source): The private response ('compartir su agua y pedir pipas privadas' vs 'monitorear la colonia entre ellos') and the result texts are conditional on the problem (water vs shootings). The monitoring text occurs in two spellings (doubled space, 14%; doubled 'para', 4%).

Because the attribute levels were not randomized independently, an estimator has to account for the restriction; a plain difference in means across levels can mislead.

Outcomes:

ratingHow difficult do you think it would be for the neighbors to organize among themselves, without the government, in the first/second colonia? (translated) [rating, 1 (Extremely difficult) to 5 (Extremely easy)]
rating_governmentHow difficult do you think it would be for the neighbors to organize to ask the government for help in the first/second colonia? (translated) [rating, 1 (Extremely difficult) to 5 (Extremely easy)]
