| Description | MECO L1 reading comprehension: 12 short expository texts read in the reader's first language during eye-tracking, each followed by 4 yes/no questions (48 items; resp = 1 correct, 0 incorrect). Adult readers, mostly university students, at 29 sites in 20 languages, pooled from the corpus's two collection rounds (cov_sample 1 = wave 1, 13 sites, N=573; 2 = wave 2, 16 sites, N=652). Only 5 texts are translations of a common original; item codes are shared only for those questions (text{t}_q{q}), and every other item is specific to a language or text version, so the table is sparse by design. N=1,225. |

This codebook is reconstructed by the IRW from the IRW data standard and the script that built it, meco_l1_comprehension.py. It is our best reading, not the source’s own codebook, and it may contain mistakes. Where the two disagree, the source data are the authority. If you find an error, please tell us.
