70,000 rated or chosen profiles from 14,000 respondents, in up to 5 tasks of 1 profile varying on 9 attributes.

About this table

DescriptionYouGov respondents in France, Germany, Italy and the UK (early 2020, n = 14,000) each read five vignettes about an MP voting on a bill (one per policy area), with vote outcome, pivotality, MP gender, government/opposition party, tenure and rebellion against the party leadership randomized and bill-direction/public-opinion information varied by arm; outcomes are feeling represented, 'every MP should be like this MP' (1-7) and traits chosen after the last vignette.

Randomization restrictionsyes (stated by the source): attr_bill_direction and attr_public_support are shown only in the information versions of Table 3 (trial_info_version); a shown bill direction was chosen to be aligned with or opposed to the respondent's stated preference (cov_pref_*), so it is not independent of the respondent; each respondent sees each attr_policy_issue exactly once (order randomized); level_weights 'uniform' refers to the six vignette-level attributes (vote, pivotality, gender, party, rebellion, tenure) per the article
Task orderrecorded in the deposit
Profile positionrecorded in the deposit

Because the attribute levels were not randomized independently, an estimator has to account for the restriction; a plain difference in means across levels can mislead.
